The US Department of Energy’s (DoE) 5001 Ready recognition program is a
self-attestation program for companies interested in complying with the basics of
the ISO 50001:2018 energy management standard, but not interested in actual
certification to the standard. This is a good first step for companies interested
in stepping up their energy management system beyond an energy team and
project-focused energy efficiency capital investments. This webinar will help
attendees learn how to access and use free tools from the DoE to get started
better managing an organization’s significant energy resources in a strategic
and sustainable way.
Advantages of the program from an organization’s point of view include:
1. 50001 Ready is free to access.
2. There are over 100 free supporting documents on line to help organizations
interested in recognition.
3. There is an online project management tool called the 50001 Ready Navigator.
4. Free support is available from DoE staff.
5. The organization seeking recognition does not have to share any proprietary
information with the DoE.
Basically it is a win-win all the way around for the organization, for the DoE, and
for energy management and sustainable energy goals for the country as a whole.
During the presentation we will explore the Navigator, discuss strategies to
use 50001 Ready to improve an organization’s current energy management
approach, and review some of the tips and tricks we’ve learned from experience
about how to work through the process of building an energy management
system that will receive DoE recognition.
