I Could Use a Little Positive Feedback... How About You?

We're getting into that time of year when there aren't a lot of ‘manufactured days of gratitude.' Executive Assistant's Day is behind us, the holidays are off in the distance, and Labor Day never seems like a big reminder to say thank you or cheer others along.

How about, as a leader, you do something for your team TODAY that might give them a boost? Here are a few nice examples of how to give positive feedback!

Now, go be a hero and say thank you to someone - it'll make your day too!

Most managers are glass half empty types. So this is hard for them (ME!) We have to learn these behaviors and then repeat them until they become habits. When that happens we transcend to the next level.

There is truth to the adage that people don’t quit their jobs, they quit their managers. I once worked for someone who dished out plenty of negative feedback, but never gave any kind of positive feedback. It wasn’t just me; I asked my peers and they never received any either. When I asked her about it, she just shrugged and said, “It’s just not my management style.” Two long-term employees quit rather than work for her, myself included. It’s important to catch people doing things right, to say thank you, and lift them up rather than drag them down.
