What are some strategies/programs/initiatives you can share that can help schools with equity and inclusiveness strategies?
-Helen
Hi Helen, some thoughts - one major topic for STEM education and careers is increasing inclusiveness in STEM majors in college and STEM careers. Thus articles on STEM education often include research or strategies on improving inclusiveness. The ASQ Education Briefs are an important resource for this discussion. Some strategies are: Engagement in the classroom through active learning and classroom activities; involvement in community activities, and outreach activities that excite students about potential careers (a K12 school's career day is an example).

Thank you for sharing your valuable insight, Cindy!

Hi Helen,
This is a important topic you are bringing up and I hope others contribute to this discussion!
I found a related article published by the U. S. Chamber of Commerce on “Paving the Way to Gender Equity Through STEM Education”. It discusses that women are underrepresented in STEM Careers and to resolve this inequity starts with education. For girls in early grades to see STEM careers such as a scientist or engineer as a possibility, “girls need to see people like them in STEM”. This is an important point. The article includes more useful information. See the link below.
