The Product Safety Engineer will join a small and focused team of compliance engineers dedicated to assuring and improving the compliance of new products and product enhancements to national and international compliance standards. The specific product safety compliance activities include: conducting safety reviews of designs; reviewing circuit board layouts and schematics, mechanical drawings and customer documentation, prototype construction; conducting and overseeing required safety testing; documenting the results; and preparing submittal files for third party certifications. Support new product design and sustain engineering activities worldwide, work with multiple functional groups within Tektronix, and act as the technical liaison for compliance issues on assigned new product development teams.
The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating the activities required to achieve regulatory compliance across multiple product lines and programs. The role involves working with multiple functional groups within Tektronix and is expected to become the technical liaison for compliance issues on assigned new product development teams. As such, this Product Safety Engineer will be responsible to communicate regularly with other members of the Compliance and Reliability groups in Beaverton, Oregon as well as to other design/manufacturing centers worldwide.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in scientific field, preferred EE or Physics
- At least 8 years’ experience working in product safety compliance.
- Experience with European Union’s “Low Voltage Directive” and the EN61010-1 standard, as well as the U.S. (UL-61010-1) and Canada (CSA C22.2#61010-1) variants
- Experience with safety assessment and evaluation of Test and Measurement products, including oscilloscopes and probes, and RF/signal analyzers
- Experience with safety reviews of prototype products, including reviews of schematics, drawings, and other technical documents
- Experience working with UL, CSA or other Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories for product listing.
- Experience participating in UL’s Data Acceptance Program or Canadian Standards Association’s Category program, and qualified for submitting test data under these programs
- Experience testing products; comfortable performing tests in a hazardous voltage/hazardous energy lab; capable of following testing procedures
- MS Office applications proficiency
- Excellent communications, spoken and written; proficient describing compliance requirements with technical and non-technical professionals
