Dear Friends,
Welcome to the ASQ 1010, Ann Arbor section membership meetings for 2020 - 2021. I have been honored to serve as your section chair since January 2019. I would like to take this opportunity to thank each of you for attending the monthly meetings. I have met many new faces, and I hope we will be able to continue meeting in some form on a regular basis when a new chair will be elected and take over in January 2021. 2020 has certainly seen its fair share of challenges. I do not think anyone of us will ever mention the phrase “What else could go wrong?” ever again. Just when you think you have seen it all, there is a surprise around every corner. Our 2020 year started off normal, but quickly changed as the world changed. Sadly, we had to cancel our in-person meetings for April and May due to the Covid-19 virus. Many of our members, including me, have learned to work from home and do their job just a little differently. The one big lesson I have learned, is to invest in a good quality home office chair. Your leadership team has been working throughout the virus, making sure that when we resume in the fall of 2020, we can do it safely and in a manner that benefits all of us.
Each ASQ section has been granted one Webex license and our section will use that as the online platform to provide virtual meetings when meeting in person is not a viable option. We have also clarified with ASQ that membership meetings held monthly which occur online via Webex, are still going to be worth the 0.5RU’s .
Our Programs Chair Don Wright has been very busy lining up speakers for the fall. We have made sure that these speakers can do their presentations virtually. So we look forward to having you all at our monthly meetings again starting in September 2020, and we are going to go on an assumption of all monthly member meetings will be online (virtual) for the foreseeable future (at least thru May 2021). At this time I would like to personally say thank you to Dr. Hagan for the arrangement between ASQ and Gift of Life and the use of their facilities, to Tom (Chair-Elect), Jon (Secretary), and Laura (Treasurer) who served on the executive committee these past two years. Plus a huge thank you to all the member committee chairs and members who have helped in the leadership over the past 2 years (Don W, Mark, Melinda, Jessie, Nathan, Blake, Moises, Wanda, Eric, Jeff, Don J., Carla, Anne, and Monica). If I have missed someone, my apologies but your work will not be forgotten and it is greatly appreciated.
I hope you enjoy our 2020 – 2021 presentations and I look forward to seeing you all again in person soon.
Thank you,
Kelvin Elvidge, ASQ CQE CQA CSQE
