Are ASQ BBs now just really GBs with the New 2022 BoK?

I saw this summary in Mary McShane-Vaughn's article in the Feb 2023 issue of the Lean & Six Sigma Review. A couple of the above items make perfect sense (i.e. Multivariate tools, and yes items like Latin squares in one-factor experiments) , but the reduced expected levels of knowledge in probability and Fractional/Full Factorial DOE. Wow!!! Does this concern anyone else? While my alarm may be a bit premature, my CSSBB (#84) seems to have been made a little less significant.

What are your thoughts of ASQ's Lean Six Sigma Black Belt outline

As you know, the SSBB training and the CSSBB Certification are two different items. In the past, the training was aligned to the BoK, so I would expect to see the training change accordingly.

Of course it appears (as I can see) there are still differences in the 2 BoKs (GB vs BB), but reducing DOE and probability cognition levels by so much is pretty drastic.

I will elaborate on the distinctions:

(2) Understand Be able to read and understand descriptions, communications, reports, tables, diagrams, directions, regulations, etc.

(3) Apply Be able to apply ideas, procedures, methods, formulas, principles, theories, etc., in job-related situations.

(4) Analyze Be able to break down information into its constituent parts and recognize the parts’ relationship to one another and how they are organized; identify sublevel factors or salient data from a complex scenario.

(5) Evaluate Be able to make judgments regarding the value of proposed ideas, solutions, methodologies, etc., by using appropriate criteria or standards to estimate accuracy, effectiveness, economic benefits, etc.

Given that these topics are used to determine statistical significance, I concur with your concerns that demonstration of these items at the Evaluate level is a reasonable expectation for a Six Sigma Black Belt based on the description of “using appropriate criteria or standards to estimate accuracy, effectiveness, …
