• Henry Ford once reportedly posed this question: “Why is it every time I ask for a pair of hands, it comes with a brain attached?” Contrast this to Taiichi Ohno’s quote, “People don’t go to Toyota to work, they go there to think.” The important difference is having a highly-engaged versus a disengaged workplace. Consider these facts:

• 3.5 million Americans quit their job – every MONTH!
• 67% of employees report feeling disengaged from their jobs on a daily basis
• 76% of employees report 'feeling tired' at work (15% have actually fallen asleep!)

Lean is hard enough; trying to do so with an unmotivated, tired, overwhelmed and overworked team is impossible. This webinar will expand upon the real reasons people are resistant to change and what you can take action on immediately to create organizational change for the better. Discover proven tools and techniques that will help you garner support for your lean transformation, giving you the absolute best chance for sustained lean success.

Employee Engagement and its impact on lean sustainability is paramount to lean success. This webinar helps to fill in the blanks that are so often present within this topic.
• We’ll look at the 3 Roots of Resistance
• We’ll review the 7 Steps to Engagement
• We’ll discuss how to build a culture of CI
Computer vision and artificial intelligence has disrupted many traditional industries. Face recognition has replaced security checks, PINs & passwords whereas Tesla's autonomous driving has changed the concept of driving. Within 5 to 10 years all inspection will be carried out by cameras and AI making rulers, tape measures, calipers and human operators obsolete.
PhotoGAUGE enables businesses and technicians to inspect parts and environments using photos from commodity cameras and phones. It has gotten traction with companies such as Goodyear, HomeDepot, Danfoss and others doing inspections to get accurate measurements, identify visual anomalies and record data for validation, warranty and repair.

• What is your definition of inspection?
• Can you take a photo of you need to it?
• What do you want the photo to tell you?

Azhar Khan is founder & CEO of PhotoGAUGE, that provides inspection solutions using commodity camera phones. Prior to PhotoGAUGE, he founded Agnitus, an adaptive educational content & analytics infrastructure company. At Like, he built company's data center, computer vision, machine learning & business intelligence infrastructures, as well as photo storage, merchant & shopping inventory operations. He also cofounded Cubus (acquire by CTSpace), an online document sharing & collaboration company. He is an advisor to Flutter.io (Acquired by Google), Fliptop (Acquired by Linkedin), Playnomics (Acquired by Unity 3D) & Cornell University, Dept. of Material Sciences & Engineering. Teams are now the fundamental unit of self-organization, though many teams are still poorly designed and structured, with results that impact negatively the company’s bottom-line, the organizational environment and even its potential for growth and innovation. Many studies have shown that even a team of kindergarteners can beat a team of MBA students if they are better at interactions. You can take a team of average performers, and if you teach them to interact the right way, they’ll do things no superstar could ever accomplish. Researchers show that he main dimension that makes teams successful is psychological safety as it improves how team members interact. Psychological safety is a shared belief that the team is safe to take risks or speak up their minds without feeling embarrassed. This belief helps to unlock employee’s potential, increase engagement and set the stage for innovation.
After this webinar attendees will:
- learn how team performance has changed with the new generations
- identify the critical factors that affect psychological safety
- understand how it drives team performance
• We may recognize two fundamental realities. (1) Business operations have a fundamental need to ensure quality products are provided to customers. (2) Lean principles dictate that inspection does not add value. How do we reconcile the apparent contradiction of these two statements?
Operations may adopt several approaches to this dilemma, that each have underlying assumptions. 100% inspection is the challenge of proving parts are good. In contrast, zero inspection assumes all parts are good. In between, we have statistical sampling which is akin to the position of “I’m not sure if the parts are good or bad, so I will perform an analysis and draw a conclusion.”
The choice of which approach to adapt may include the risk associated with a defect, for example, pilots performing pre-flight inspection of an aircraft. Alternatively, companies that utilize certified suppliers may have confidence that receiving inspection is not necessary. We may also utilize statistical process control as a means of ensuring quality, focusing on the process rather than the part.
Session participants will attain the following learning objectives:
• Learning the four costs of quality
• Understanding the appropriate use of 100% inspection
• Understanding the appropriate use of zero inspection
• Understanding the appropriate use of statistical sampling
• Learning when and how to replace product inspection with process auditing

The facilitator will include timely examples addressing the following discussion points:
• How do we ensure products bought online have quality (is produce fresh, do clothes fit, etc.)?
• Should we trust auto-pilot functions to perform pre-flight inspection (and the same for self-driving vehicles)?
• Estimates are critical to most, if not all, businesses. Despite the critical nature of estimates, most of the techniques in use do not give good results. As a result, we jeopardize schedules, profits, customer relationships, and employee morale far too frequently. Why are our estimates so bad?
Many of the estimates that we rely upon are generated by using “average” assumptions to give expected outcomes. Average inputs should give average results, right? Wrong! In almost any system of reasonable complexity, average inputs will not generate average outputs. As a result, many of our estimates are overly optimistic and hence overly risky. Even in those rare situations where average inputs do generate average results, the actual outcome will almost never be at the average that was estimated. Therefore, it is critical for good decision making to generate estimates that include a view of the likely variability of the outcome. Decisions made without knowledge of likely variability are inherently risky and doomed to fail. Flaw of Averages: How Our Methods Doom...

 • Multicultural enterprise also means diversity of norms and social practices and is likely a globally distributed enterprise. In preparing presentation materials of a technical nature there are some effective practices that should be considered, especially when there are global associates tuning in electronically and English is a 2nd language for them. Geographical cultural norms are inextricable under these scenarios and need to be taken into consideration so that the risk of alienating or offending a participant is prevented. All of these factors along with basic public speaking skills will allow the presenter to achieve the highest degree of communication.
