Earning RUs

I have never had trouble accumulating the required RUs. Staying employed is definitely the biggest chunk. Being an ITEA judge also helps me quickly earn them, especially if I am both a prelim and final round judge. Attending conferences and reviewing abstracts for the WCQI are also ways I have earned them. In fact, if you review conference abstracts you are given complimentary WCQI registration, reviewing and attending both earn RUs, so it's double the benefit!

For all of these aforementioned areas I receive documentation from someone else. I have attended a lot of webinars for RUs as well. For many of these I have received documentation, but for others I have to keep the documentation myself. Most of them send "thank you for participating" emails at least, so I use those. The Blue Ridge ASQ section has multiple webinar offerings each month, and they send RU certificates each month for what you attended the previous. So far I have been able to achieve RU with minimal out-of-pocket expenses which is good because I don't have a lot of money available to fund my recertification.

You also earn RU's for your ASQ membership now (0.5 per year).   And don't forget about your Monthly Member Gift - about 4 per gift.   

Here is an idea for ASQ Senior, Fellow, or Honorary members (all other groups are ineligible, so get the cost-free upgrade to Senior as soon as you are able).

1. Get your Senior membership.  If you have been a Full Member for 1 year, have over 10 years in the Quality profession, and want to renew your ASQ certification, get your ASQ upgrade today.  Call 1-800-248-1946.
2. After WCQI, be alert for the Call For Reviewers. Submit your application to be a reviewer.  This is not an entitlement, but awarded based on matching needs with capabilities.
3. Review your assigned abstracts and submit your scores. Each year you do this is worth 1.5 RU for Committee Involvement.
4. Attend WCQI with the reviewer promo code (complimentary registration).  Your reward for attending WCQI is 1RU per day or 3 RU for the conference for Professional Development.
5. Moderate sessions at WCQI.  Each session moderated is worth 0.5 RU; typical workload is 3 sessions, resulting in 1.5 RU per conference for Presentations and Publications.
6. if during WCQI you also attend any events like ITAG, Community Leadership Institute sessions, or Division meetings, those are also worth additional RU for Meetings

Attending the ASQ conferences (LSS, WCQI, etc.) will definitely fast-track your RU accumulation, in a very enjoyable and fulfilling manner.


 

Serving in an elected or appointed Division or Section Member Leader is also a good way to earn RUs not to mention that being a Member Leader is a rewarding experience and is an important criteria to become ASQ Fellow.

Hi- I need to put together a service letter to recognize Member Leader Committee service.  Are there templates or forms that provide standard language?  Thanks.

I think the best approach would be to align the details of the service with the pertinent section within the Recertification Journal.

• Committee Service: Elected positions, full committee participation, ad hoc contributions
• Speaker or presenter at conferences or meetings
• Articles included within member unit publications
• Credit for attendance at meetings and events
• Certifications acquired during 3 year period

I see Recertification assistance as a value-added service that the member unit can offer to its members.  This also helps the individual member to start a professional portfolio that will enable their nomination to ASQ Senior Member, ASQ Fellow Member, and any of the ASQ Awards.

I think 4 RU is a little high - typically the monthly Member Gift has 3-4 hours of video content that can be viewed which translates to 0.3 to 0.4 RU (0.025 RU per 15 minutes, or 0.1 RU/hour). As others have mentioned, I document by taking a screenshot of the video opening. I save as a PDF and add a comment to indicate the date viewed, running time and RU claimed. You can also paste the screenshot into a word processor and add the info. I have attached an example - last month I viewed a webinar on Risk Management that was a Member Gift (from Feb 2019).

I had exactly the same question as Peter, now I got the information I needed for claiming the Multimedia RU's, thanks! Just to confirm something, Multimedia is listed as 0.25RU per hour, not 0.025. It seems a bit high to me compared to employment etc. but this number is in several places so I think it must be correct then, right? 

You can earn RUs for accessing your member gift?  How does that work?

I would also like to know how to earn RU for accessing member gift?

I've watched the member gifts for April, May and now June 2020. I've taken screenshots of everything I have watched with dates but now I am confused as to where to list them in my Recertification journal. I've contacted Live Chat twice, with ASQ telling me to submit them into 2 separate sections, while the website says something else.

Besides where to submit in journal, can we list all webinars in one member gift together or do they need to be individually submitted?

Hi Laura Cordero‍ - I double checked with the Cert Team and webinars/ webcasts should go under Professional development. I would separate them out to be on the safe side.
