Dave Harry

Many view Toyota Kata as the “secret sauce” of the Toyota Production System. Mike Rother authored “Toyota Kata” and hosts a website and training dedicated to this amazing process improvement sustaining methodology. How do we prepare for the future when we don’t know what the future will bring?  We often can’t predict how to get from point A to B... we’re stumped and overwhelmed, it’s too complicated, there are time constraints and even economic pressures. How can we get comfortable with challenging goals and navigate the grey zone between here and there?  How do you sustain this?
Dave Harry has attended eight recent Toyota Kata Summits (KataCon) and several Toyota Kata Workshops sponsored by ASQ Sections and  the Association for Manufacturing Excellence (AME) organization.
Dave is a retired U.S. Navy helicopter pilot. He is currently a Black Belt trainer and CEO of Process Whisperer® Consultants LLC in Greeneville, TN. Following a military career, Dave taught Lean Six Sigma “Belt” classes for various companies including the University of Tennessee, Northrop Grumman, TMG, and Rolls-Royce Energy in Mount Vernon, OH. Dave is currently on the Board of the Operational Excellence Society, the Board of ASQ Lean Enterprise Division.
Dave has served several terms on the ASQ LED Board and IISE Operational Excellence Division. In addition to LSS Black Belt certifications, Dave is a PMI certified PMP®, a Certified Baseline PMO Consultant, and holds Lean Bronze Certification (LBC) from SME/Shingo/AME. He is also a Certified Scrum Master (CSM). Dave is a recognized Toyota Kata “Geek” and teaches Toyota Kata classes. Dave has three master’s degrees in management and is also an ASQ International Team Excellence Awards Judge.

ASQ Automotive & ASQ Greater Detroit Section In Person Seminar

Saturday April 29th, 2023
The World of Work is Changing for the Modern Quality Professional

8 AM – 12 pm   Credits: 0.5 Rus
Location: Engineering Society of Detroit (ESD) 20700 Civic Center Dr. #450 Southfield, MI 48076 Ph. 248.353.0735
This will be an In-Person Seminar. Time: 8am – 12pm Cost: $20 ASQ member, $30 Non-member
The traditional data driven skills possessed by the quality professional are being replaced by end-to-end workflow programs that will not only calculate in fraction of a second what used to take days, but give recommendations based on this data. So what is the modern quality practitioner to do, to either stay ahead and stay employed, or re-tool in the face of exponential leaps in technology? The answer is simple – Leadership.

Jeremy teams up with Greg to take the modern quality professional though learning to evolve from a place of support to the forefront as a leader in their teams, companies and their own lives. Jeremy will cover: The changing environment of the Quality landscape; How to position our skills in an financially viable way to define your value; Rewiring the brain to break functional fixedness paradigms in common quality functions like auditing and risk-based thinking.

Greg will provide the view point from the leadership perspective for companies, connect and confirm the material and the techniques are applicable for the current climate. He will walk through his trademarked “Tool Belt” method to team building and leadership. The profession as we know it will become unrecognizable to the modern quality professional in the next 20 years… the question is, are you going to have the correct view, insight and mindset to lead your team through it?

Jeremy Hazel is a professional Speaker, Trainer, Author, Artist, Leadership Consultant & Business owner who focuses on the Business and Financial case for leadership and creativity in systems thinking. He works as a technical expert and trainer with Plexus International where he focuses on Core Tools, GD&T and Systems (ISO 9001, 14001, IATF, AS) with a specialization on plant, operations and executive development. Jeremy received his B.S. with dual specialization in Organizational Management and Corporate Finance, and further expanded his career with an MBA with a focus in Quality Management where he did his Master’s thesis on blending Six Sigma for service with Systems Management. He holds numerous ASQ certifications.

Greg Harriman has been in manufacturing since 1987, his fields are automotive & medical, to name a few, working at every level, CNC Programmer then Project Engineer, to Automation Engineer. He switched to Management, where he has held titles of Engineering Manager, Manufacturing Manager, Plant Manager, Director of Operations, Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer.
